Disney Star Wars cruise?

Even though I am not a big Star Wars fan, I have to admit, this sounds like a great idea! Starting in 2016 Disney will what they are calling “Star Wars Day”, the idea is to have a day full of Star War linked activities, while at sea. In the past, I’ve heard people complaining that sea days are boring to them, and that they can’t wait to get to port. While this is not an issue for us, I can understand how some people might be bored. This would the perfect kind of solution for them!

Disney is not being specific into what activities they will have. However, they did give a broad range of activities that they will implement. Something tells me this is a work in progress. Here are some of the daily Star Wars related activities;

  • Character meet and greet of the most popular Star Wars Characters.
  • Star Wars deck parties.
  • Star Wars themed activities; Jedi training, Trivia, arts and crafts
  • Screening of the Star War movies, including Episode VII.
  • And “more” as stated by Disney…

The selected cruises will start on January 9, 2016. The sailings are all aboard Disney’s newest vessel the Disney Fantasy, and it will be sailing the western Caribbean with stops in Cozumel, Grand Cayman and Castaway Cay. Here are the sailing dates;

  • January 9
  • January 23
  • February 6
  • February 20
  • March 5
  • March 19
  • April 2
  • April 16

I am sure this will be a cruise of a lifetime, especially for those who are fans. However, something tells me that being Disney, this is really geared towards the children. Another important topic to bring up is the price of this cruise. Disney not known for being the most affordable cruise line, I guess those interested might have to save a little longer to get on board. The good news is that you have about a year to get your finances in order ;).

This also seems like a great plan to increase the interest in everything related to Star Wars. Who knows, this might later become a permanent addition to their future cruises. I would love to see that happen, and maybe even get to sail on one :).
